What We Do
(And why it works)
Our ongoing school program is a homeschool hybrid model serving families with children ages 5-14, prioritizing child-led learning and nature exploration. Between the hours of 9am and 2pm, children will engage in activities such as woodworking, plant identification, foraging, nature art, team-building activities, critical thinking/group sharing circles, and more. The school day is modeled after a child's "natural state" -- outdoors, freedom of movement, learning by doing, and lots of cooperative play.

A typical day includes free play, a facilitated critical thinking circle, woodworking project, collaborative game, lunch, nature wander, and art time. Participants are asked to bring a healthy picnic lunch and pack a change of clothes.
What does The Natural State School want for your family? We want your children to learn how to operate in the “real world.” You get this through experience, and a confidence in yourself that comes from you actually doing things in the real world. Take on bigger and better challenges—right here and now in childhood, so that you actually have the toolkit you need for the real world.
